Fertility Medicine

What is it really like working in fertility (infertility) medicine as a PA or NP?

In this video, I sit down with Jessica Boone, a physician assistant working in fertility medicine to explain what PAs and NPs actually do in this unique and often overlooked medical specialty.

Fertility medicine is a different kind of medical career. You’re not managing constant life-or-death situations or chronically ill patients—instead, you’re working with a generally healthy, highly motivated patient population. That alone sets fertility medicine apart from many traditional specialties.

We also talk about something many clinicians don’t realize: you don’t have to work exclusively in fertility medicine to use these skills. With additional training, PAs and NPs can incorporate fertility counseling into their family practice or OB/GYN roles. That can help you develop a niche within your current practice, improve patient care, and even help practices increase revenue and stand out in a competitive healthcare landscape.

In this interview, we cover job duties, schedule, patient volume, pay, what’s rewarding, what’s challenging, and who this specialty is best suited for.
